There is SOOOOO much to think about when you are planning a wedding, and it’s so easy to get overwhelmed by it all. When you are prioritizing some of the most important things, it can sometimes feel like EVERYTHING is important. I want to show you today why your wedding timeline matters, and why it’s worth spending some of your precious time to make sure it’s solid.
Your Day Isn’t About The Photography
It’s a strange thing to say as a photographer, isn’t it? Often we see weddings through the lens of the photographs resulting from the event. But, if you ask anyone who has ever been married, I’m sure that they will tell you that their marriage is so much more than photos of their wedding day.
Don’t get me wrong, I obviously think photographing your big day is a really important thing! It’s just that your day is really about your marriage. It’s a celebration of the fact that you are starting a marriage. I’ll be there to capture it all, because it’s a really special and important event, but I will encourage you to keep the focus on the fact that you are starting a marriage together with your partner.
How to Craft a Wedding Timeline
Okay, so it’s all about the marriage and not the photography. How should you craft your timeline then? I’m so glad you asked. I will encourage you to create a timeline that does two things:
01 | Create a Timeline That Aligns with Your Priorities
The flow of your day needs to align with your priorities. It should speak to who you are as a couple, rather than what you have seen from other people. Consider the parts of this day that are important to you and what you are looking forward to the most. Are you excited to party at the reception? Do you think it’s important to spend time with just you and your new spouse during the day? Is it important to you to be surrounded by friends and family as much as possible?
Whatever the feel of the day you are going for, this timeline is going to set you up for the day you want. Take the time to think through what that means for you as a couple and how to create a day that stays true to the things most important to you.
02 | Focus on the Marriage, Not the Photography
Since your day is all about your new marriage (yay!!). Photography is the way we are going to document this big day, but not the focus, so I will encourage you to keep the photography interruptions to a minimum. Most couples will want some formal portrait time. I love this, and it’s really special to have these photos of the two of you.
Your timeline should make any desired formal portrait time quick and seamless, so you can get back to enjoying your day. I’ll be there to capture all the little moments you have throughout the day, but you should be enjoying your day instead of posing for a camera during the most important or special moments. We will get some really great images of you together while continuing to keep the focus on your new marriage.
I hope that I have helped to show you why your wedding timeline matters. Your big day will be an incredible memory of the start of a beautiful marriage when you keep the focus on the most important things.
