This wintry Minnesota Wedding was one for the books! I am so excited to share Ashlyn & Tony’s big day with you, it was so full of joy! Even though the temperatures never climbed above 15 degrees, they were undeterred. These two lovebirds were all smiles from start to finish. The rolled with the MN winds & cold and celebrated their nuptials with their closest friends and family.
Their story began years ago in Brookings, where they met through a mutual friend from SDSU.
Tony later proposed at Falls Park in Sioux Falls on a freezing New Year’s Eve. So I guess you could say they have practice braving the cold!
Ashlyn and Tony hired me to capture the beginning of their wedding day, through their ceremony.
They got ready separately with their besties, laughing and smiling the whole time. Ashlyn had such a great group of bridesmaids, and they really brought the joy together. She did a little first look with them in the getting ready suite, and their reactions were priceless.
Ashlyn’s gown was effortlessly elegant for her wintry Minnesota wedding.
A structured strapless bodice featured delicate bow details down the front. I loved that little detail! The full skirt flowed beautifully, with classic buttons trailing down the back. The whole vibe felt modern yet timeless. Her hair was pulled back in a low bun to complete the look.

A Sweet First Look in the Cold
The wind was sharp and the ground was dusted with snow, but these two were still down for a first look outdoors. I love an adventurous couple! And when Ashlyn snuck up and tapped him on the shoulder, Tony’s face said it all. He was BEAMING! And then, they leaned into each other for warmth and laughed through the chill.
After portraits outside, they stepped onto the porch of Ashlyn’s parents’ home for a private vow exchange.
It was quiet and deeply personal. Just the two of them, tucked away before the ceremony.
Their relationship is built on balance and fun. They love lake days. And they love cooking together, even if they argue about who gets the kitchen. They cherish dinner and cribbage nights.
That playful energy carried through this wedding celebration, and I loved capturing those sparks of connection in each moment of their day.

Wedding Party Portraits
Before their ceremony, we made sure to get wedding party portraits with everyone. We captured a few quick portraits outside, before moving into the church for a warmer enviornment!
The bridesmaids wore long black dresses in a mix of different silhouettes.
The contrast against the snow outside was stunning. Each held soft bundles of baby’s breath that added texture without overpowering the palette.
If you love a classic black & white color palette, here’s another blog post with inspo from a similar look!
A few favorite details to jot down for inspo if you’re also craving that classic & elevated look for your day:
- Pearl accents on your gown
- Dainty gold and diamond jewelry
- A black and white invitation suite with elegant script
- A vow book exchange
- Baby’s breath flowers in contrast to a darker bridesmaids dress color
Every element was intentional and cohesive. They really crafted such a beautiful day to celebrate their nuptials.

A Wintry Minnesota Wedding Ceremony:
The church was filled with warm wood tones and beautiful natural light for their ceremony. The bridal party lined the altar in classic black. The setting felt both grand and intimate at the same time.
As a doctor and a carpenter, Ashlyn and Tony each bring different strengths to their marriage.
You can see that steadiness in the way they hold hands. In the way they look at each other. Their excitement in starting this chapter of their lives together.
This Wintry Minnesota Wedding was elegant, heartfelt, and full of joy.
The weather was frigid, but the love & connection shared was not. Ashlyn and Tony embraced every moment, and it made their day unforgettable.
I am so honored to be their Minnesota wedding photographer. Congratulations, you two!
