People say all the time that hiring a photographer is a luxury, and they’re kind of right. But on the other hand… they’re completely wrong. Everyone deserves to enjoy photos of themselves that remind them of the way they felt during big moments. We all also deserve to have an stress-free experience. But how does this all work? No worries, I’m here to tell you why you should invest in professional photography.
When you’re ready to hire, finding the right photographer for you is the first step.
This person will be capturing your biggest moments. You want someone that will help cheer you on and also make beautiful art. Here’s a list of some things to consider:
- Pricing is always going to be a factor, but don’t let it be your only one. Find out what’s important to you and add that on. Maybe you want a photographer who provides a la carte products. Maybe you want all the digitals. Different needs have different prices.
- Quality is also a big deal! You’ll want to look through multiple sessions (or even full wedding galleries if you’re getting married) so you can make sure their photos are consistently up to the standard of what you’re looking for.
- Consider how someone’s photos make you feel! They may constantly do very traditional posing that you are in love with or maybe they take candid photos and you rarely see someone looking at the camera. Which do you prefer?
- Check their reviews! A bad review or two is to be expected (& sometimes can feel more authentic), but also pay attention to what those reviews say. Look for key words that matter to you. People may say their session was great because they didn’t feel rushed and that’s important to you. Maybe they say they loved how their photographer was prepared for anything with an emergency wedding kit!
Once you’ve found your person, you may still be wondering, why invest in professional photography when I can do it myself? But here’s what you’ll be missing out on:

Professionals are ready for absolutely anything. They have ways to make your ideas come to life and then some. Like taking beautiful headshots and getting “b-roll” or “stock imagery” so that your website looks cohesive.

Can you imagine setting up a tripod then running to the couch with this many people involved? There’s absolutely no way! Our job as photographers is to make things easy on you.

Photographers take safety training and put in so many hours of hard work so that we can work quickly and efficiently. We learn to swaddle, keep baby safe, and make beautiful take home memories.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the memories we forget to capture them. Photos like these where your little one has just hit another milestone is such a privilege for us to photograph on your behalf. This way you can be present AND have beautiful memories that last forever.

Who else is going to capture the moments during your wedding day that you’re too busy enjoying? There’s so many examples that go around showing the difference in a cell phone photo and a professional camera, but there’s so much more involved. We’ve got to be able to use things like light systems and backups on backups to ensure we’re ready for any situation. Let your cousin enjoy your wedding while we get the good stuff.
