Some wedding days just feel like a one big celebration with your favorite people. And Libby and Patrick’s wedding is the perfect example of that. Even just collecting their photos for this blog post made me grin again. These two wanted a family-friendly wedding that felt laid back, FUN, and full of time to enjoy the people they love most. And my goodness, they absolutely nailed it!
From sweet family moments to a packed dance floor, their wedding at The Olde Coliseum was such a joy to photograph.
If you’re dreaming of a family-friendly wedding where everyone feels included and the little memories are just as meaningful as the big moments, Libby and Patrick’s day is the perfect inspiration!
They started off the day getting ready with their friends and family at the venue. They decided to do a first look and private vows on the lawn outside before their ceremony. This also allowed us to take all the wedding party photos beforehand too! And we had so much fun with those!!
This wedding party was down for all the fun poses. Including running and throwing and laughing! We had such a good time! And even the flower girls had their moment to shine! I loved how much of a family-friendly wedding this was.

A Family-Friendly Wedding Filled With Sweet Moments
One of my favorite things about Libby and Patrick’s wedding was how much their day included their family. With little ones getting ready alongside the adults, adorable flower girls in delicate white dresses, and plenty of opportunities for the kids to be part of the celebration, this was a true family affair.
In my opinion, as a Minnesota wedding photographer who has captured hundreds of special days, a family-friendly wedding doesn’t have to mean sacrificing beautiful details or romantic portraits. It’s about creating a day where the people who matter most can be part of the memories.
And these two did just that!
Some of the ways you can make your wedding family friendly:
- Have coloring pages at your reception
- Have a kid-buffet with kid friendly foods (Mac and cheese! Pizza! etc)
- Include a flower girl and ring bearers
- Invite the kiddos onto the dance floor
- Have props for them (like glow sticks)
- Make it very clear on your invitation and website that families are welcome to celebrate with you

A Romantic Outdoor Ceremony
The Olde Coliseum provided a beautiful backdrop for Libby and Patrick to say “I do.” The outdoor ceremony space featured a charming wooden gazebo surrounded by lush green trees and open grassy spaces. It was a lovely setting for gathering with friends and family to celebrate the start of their marriage.
(If you have been on my blog before, you might recognize this venue from this wedding day!)
Libby looked absolutely beautiful in her lace wedding gown with delicate floral details, an off-the-shoulder neckline, and flowing train. Her relaxed hairstyle and natural, romantic look were the perfect fit for her bridal look! Patrick complemented her beautifully in a tan suit with a light blue tie and coordinating boutonniere.
When they said I Do, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house! (Well, lawn! haha) Their friends and family supported them with so much love and encouragement!

From “I Do” to a Packed Dance Floor
After the outdoor ceremony, everyone headed inside The Olde Coliseum to keep the celebration going! The reception was full of energy, with warm lighting, a lively dance floor, and guests ready to party.
And when it came time to celebrate, Libby and Patrick didn’t hold back! From a joyful entrance to sweet first-dance moments and plenty of dancing with family, the evening was the perfect reflection of their personalities.
And during sunset, we snuck outside for a few golden hour newlywed portraits on the lawn.
Those were some of my favorite moments of the day! Just a quick, sweet moment to check in with your new spouse (!!) and enjoy the moment together.
These two were so calm and present throughout the entire day though. They laughed their way through the little moments and genuinely enjoyed every bit of their celebration. Their happiness was contagious, and it was such a joy to capture.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Schreiner!
Libby and Patrick, thank you for trusting me to document such a special day! Your kindness, your joy, and the way you love each other made this wedding an absolute blast to photograph.
If you’re planning a family-friendly wedding, let this be your reminder that your day can be beautiful, meaningful, and FUN all at once.
Make room for the people you love, leave space to enjoy the moment, and let your wedding day feel like you.
I have a feeling marriage is going to be one heck of a fun adventure for these two, and this is only the beginning!
