This gorgeous Lake Superior elopement was one for the books!! Ever since this beautiful Fall day, I have been excited to put these images on the blog for you.
Meet Lizzi and Megan! Their big day was the perfect combination of genuine moments, beautiful scenery, and time spent with their favorite people. AKA: my love language as a Minnesota wedding photographer!
In September, these two headed to Minnesota’s North Shore for an intimate wedding day with just their parents by their sides. No packed timeline or giant guest list. Just the two of them, the people who helped shape their lives, and the incredible natural beauty of Lake Superior.
Ah, what more could you ask for??
A First Look Before Saying “I Do”
The day began at their Airbnb, where Lizzi and Megan shared a first look before heading out to the shoreline. There’s something really special about creating space for a quiet moment together before the rest of the day unfolds. Even for intimate elopements! It gives you a chance to take a breath, connect, and really let it sink in that you’re getting married!
Their ceremony took place along the shore of Lake Superior, with the water and rugged North Shore landscape providing a naturally beautiful backdrop. With their parents present and their photographer officiating the ceremony, the experience felt personal and true to them.
A Lake Superior elopement like this is a wonderful reminder that your wedding doesn’t have to follow a traditional formula to feel incredibly meaningful.

Exploring the North Shore Together
After the ceremony, the adventure continued with a hike along the Oberg Mountain Loop. September is such a beautiful time to explore the North Shore, with cooler temperatures and the changing colors beginning to transform the landscape.
Instead of spending the entire day moving from one scheduled event to the next, Lizzi and Megan had time to enjoy the experience together for their elopement.
We swapped a timeline for:
- A relaxed morning and first look at their Airbnb
- An intimate lakeside ceremony with their parents
- Time to explore the North Shore on the Oberg Mountain Loop
- A homemade cake to celebrate their marriage
- Dinner with their parents to end the day
It was simple, intentional, and full of the kinds of moments that make a wedding day feel like your own.

A Wedding Day To Remember
One of the best parts of planning an elopement is getting to decide what actually matters to you. Maybe that’s exchanging vows beside a lake, taking a hike together, sharing a cozy Airbnb, or sitting down to dinner with the people who know you best.
For Lizzi and Megan, their wedding was a beautiful reflection of their relationship and the life they’re building together.
If you’re dreaming of a Lake Superior elopement, let this be your reminder that your wedding can look however you want it to.
You can trade the traditional timeline for an adventure, keep your guest list small, and build a day around the experiences that mean the most to you.
Lizzi and Megan, your North Shore wedding was such a beautiful celebration of your love. Thank you for choosing me to be your photographer! Here’s to all the adventures still ahead!
