This was such a beautiful backyard elopement in minnesota. The entire day with Kristen and Sean was absolutely magical. It was slow, intimate, and beautiful from start to finish and honestly exactly what a wedding day should feel like. These two are so natural together and so clearly each other’s rock.
Their celebration was completely centered around connection. From getting ready with the people they love most to a lakeside backyard reception, every part of the day was incredibly personal. I was so grateful to be their Minnesota wedding photographer and be a fly on the wall, capturing it all.
The morning of their backyard elopement in Minnesota was relaxed and full of anticipation. They laughed and enjoyed the slow morning with their people.
Kristen wore a stunning, simple gown from The Wedding Shoppe. Its clean silhouette and halter neckline were so perfect for this day. Her hair was pulled into a soft, low updo by Rowan Beauty Co., with a few loose pieces framing her face. She looked every inch the bride!
There were also plenty of sweet moments with family as everyone got ready. Little girls had their hair done. Dresses were adjusted. Shoes were slipped on. As a wedding photographer, I am always looking for these in-between moments. Little memories maybe you didn’t even see happening! But they’re in your gallery, waiting for you to relive your day.

Before their ceremony, these two met up by the lake for a first look.
The way they hugged each other after the reveal!! They truly are just best friends getting married.
We spent some time exploring the family’s property, taking photos along the way in the afternoon lighting. The trees were so beautiful in the Summer sun. And Kristen and Sean’s happiness was palpable.
If you’re considering eloping in Minnesota, I highly suggest a backyard affair. This was so laid-back and personal. Really brought everything back to what wedding days are all about: joining your lives together in front of your closest people. And starting the new chapter together.

Before spending the afternoon celebrating lakeside, Kristen and Sean exchanged vows in a beautiful historic Lutheran church.
The white exterior and classic steeple made for such a lovely setting. Inside, warm wood details and traditional church architecture created an intimate atmosphere for their ceremony.
Walking down the aisle together with their closest people surrounding them felt incredibly special. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when they said I Do!
We made sure to take a photo of all their guests outside the church afterward. I love to do this for elopements. It’s a great way to remember who was there! And a lot of my elopement couples use this for their Thank You cards afterward!

After the ceremony, everyone went back to the lake for a backyard reception.
And this is where the day really felt like a celebration of the two of them.
This day was so heartfelt. Guests gathered on the lawn. Kids swam in the lake or swung on the trees. Everyone milled around with cocktails and yummy food. As I walked around with my camera, I got to hear so many fun stories reminisced on. Right in the middle of all the new ones being made all around them.
I am really honored I got to be to be included in this day!
The flowers from Sunny Mary Meadow added the perfect natural touch. Soft white blooms and greenery complemented Kristen’s gown perfectly, without taking away from the relaxed setting.
There was nothing rushed about Kristen and Sean’s day. It was about good food with your closest people. About spending the day together as the day faded away.
And honestly, that is what a backyard elopement in Minnesota can be at its very best.
Kristen and Sean, I am so happy for you both. Congratulations! Your special day was an absolute joy to photograph, and I hope these images always bring you right back to this beautiful day.
